Good morning, y’all! I’m sitting here with a mug of steamed milk, reflecting on the last month. January is always crazy busy around my house, which is why this post is coming a week late. Oops! This is the first post of a monthly blog series I’m calling Sit a Spell. If you’re from North Carolina, you’re familiar with the term. You’ve probably even used it to invite friends or loved ones to take a seat and chit-chat over a beverage. I can’t think of a better way to get to know a new friend or catch up with old ones. It’s the Southern version of fika — which is basically the coziest thing ever.
Let’s Sit a Spell and Chat
Cozy in Carolina launched on January 9th. I can hardly believe it’s already been up for almost a month and published five blog posts!
I wish I could’ve squeezed in a few more articles, but I’ve been busy working in the background on all the things that can’t be seen. I’ve optimized site speed, figured out why an SSL wasn’t included in my hosting package and registered the site with the major browsers. My pet project has been breaking out my brand new DSLR, so I can slip better images into blog posts for y’all!
Blog Posts I Loved Last Month
Speaking of blog posts… one of my favorite blogs, Pretty in the Pines, did a New Years post called 19 Things I Learned in 2019. In the post, Shelby talks about her anxiety. I’ve been following the blog for a couple of years and had no clue she suffers too. Her honesty about her affliction was perfectly timed, giving me the courage to publish my first post.
Another one of my favorite blogs, I’m Fixin To, released a post called How to Set Healthy Boundaries With Friends: 8 Essential Tips. This post really hit home for me. As I’ve mentioned before, I have a hard time setting boundaries with others. It’s just an overall issue for me. Since reading Meghan’s post, I’m more motivated than ever to learn to set boundaries.
At least I’m motivated for something, my motivation for everything else bailed on me over the last week. I’m coming off of an unplanned four day weekend. I spent all of it cuddled up on the couch binging Hart of Dixie on Netflix, and wondering how I managed to overlook this little Southern gem of a show. Despite the musical episodes, it’s basically rom-com comfort food.
Our New Bed Arrived
If you read the Cozy Master Bedroom Inspiration post, you know I’m on a mission to update our master bedroom. We ordered a new bed shortly after I published the post and it arrived two weeks early! We spent a whole day putting everything together and shopping for bedding. What do y’all think!? I still need some throw pillows, but I like the direction it’s headed in! I’ll post a bedroom update soon.
A Few Other Things Arrived Too
The hubby did a little secret internet shopping, so I came home from running errands recently to discover a few surprise packages. He is legit the best! I got this zip-up hoodie and new Camp Socks from J. Crew Factory. The hoodie might be the comfiest one I own. It’s so soft! I wore it pretty much every day of my four day weekend. If you’re not into fleece hoodies, the marled ones are super cute too!
Nothing is as cute as Belle was for her 12th birthday, though! I can’t believe my baby is only a year away from her teens. Maybe that’s why I went a little overboard for her party, which turned into a three-day celebration. We went shopping (TWICE), out to dinner, to the arcade, and had a double sleepover. She had a wonderful weekend, but all the excitement left this mama exhausted.
Another Post Series
After Belle’s birthday, I went to the spa for the first time and wrote about it. A friend loved An Anxious Girl’s Guide to Spa Facials and suggested I turn the post into a series. The whole idea is to try things I’ve never done before that trigger anxiety and tell everyone how it went. I’m considering the series to be a form of exposure therapy. So the next post in the Anxious Girl’s Guide series will be about going to the gym.
Family Game Night
My brother-in-law and his wife started a new tradition: family game night. We all get together at their house to eat and play board games a couple of times a month. These intimate little get-togethers are my favorite new family tradition. We have so much fun getting the kids together and battling it out. I’ve been looking for new games to play – something out of everyone’s comfort zone. I think this one and this one look fun. What do you think? Drop a comment in the section below and let me know what games you suggest. I’d love to have a new game to throw into the mix.
What to Expect in February
Our family schedule is wide open this month, which never happens. I’m downright ecstatic! It’s the perfect time to do all the things that set my soul at ease. Reading by candlelight, mindful hiking, and cuddling on the couch. Thinking about it has me happier than a pig in… well, you get the idea.
My cup of steamed milk is empty, and you know what that means: I’m off to start the day. Before I do that, I just want to say thank you for sticking around for the last three weeks! I’m looking forward to us getting to know each other better. Happy Humpday, y’all!
