This past month has been one of the busiest of my life. Why? We bought a house! Brandon and I signed the closing papers on May 21st. I can’t believe we’ve already spent two weeks in our new home! If you can’t tell, I’m beyond stoked to be starting this new chapter in our lives!
All of this happened so quickly. Our closing took less than a month! For the last four weeks, I’ve scrambled to keep everything together. From negotiations to moving, it’s been a whirlwind of activity. I’m so happy to finally have a few minutes to fill you guys in!
When did you start house hunting?
We browsed Zillow for months before we decided to apply for a loan. After we got our pre-approval letter, we contacted our realtor with a list of three homes we wanted to tour. We toured the homes on April 21st and made an offer on April 23rd. Negotiations were completed before the weekend!
What were you looking for?
Brandon and I were looking for different things out of the houses we toured. I wanted 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and charm (or at least some potential). Brandon was all about location, safety, and ensuring the house was in good condition.
What do you love about the house?
I’m not crazy about mid-century homes, but y’all… this house is so cozy and charming! It’s bigger than our previous home, but it’s not too big. There’s a brick walled den, hardwoods, dentil molding, and confederate jasmine in the backyard. It’s in the perfect little nook of Fayetteville too. I’m actually shocked by how much I love this house.
Did this process take a toll on your mental health?
Changes always impact my mental health, even good ones. The excitement did become anxiety on certain occasions, which led to a few sleepless nights. Luckily, Brandon dealt with all the financials, and our realtor was on top of everything else. My one job was packing/unpacking, and I found ways to make it less stressful.
Who was your realtor?
Austin Peterman of Peterman Reality was our realtor. He was absolutely amazing! Austin took care of everything, kept us on track, and made the process feel totally seamless. If you’re looking for a home anywhere from Fayetteville to Raleigh, you should check him out. I seriously can’t praise him enough!
Will this be your forever home?
Honestly, I don’t know. I do love this house, but is it my dream house? No. As of right now, this is not our forever home. Brandon and I both want to live in one of the small towns outside of Fayetteville. Personally, I’ve always wanted to live in a historic farmhouse with plenty of acreage for a hobby farm. I can see us moving on in another decade or so.
However, I am sentimental. Closing happened on the 19th anniversary of the day Brandon and I started dating. Isn’t that the sweetest thing? I don’t know how the stars aligned to make that happen. Plus, our children are growing up. If I’m still in this house by the time I have grandbabies, I may never want to leave. I guess only time will tell.
Do you have projects planned?
Absolutely! We put off redecorating our master bedroom a few months ago because we started talking about buying a house. So not only do we have updates planned for the house, but we have decor updates on the schedule as well! Plus, there’s a ton of yard work to get done – starting with tree removal. And I’ll be sharing all of that with you as the work gets underway.
If you have any questions, drop them in the comment section below, and I’ll get back to you!
P.S. I filmed a short tour of the house after closing, and I’m posting it to my Instagram stories ASAP. Stop by to take a peek!
